Matakana Coast Wine Country is well known for its locally grown organic produce and a pristine coastline teeming with seafood, which can be found at the famous Matakana Village Farmers Market (every Saturday 8am - 1pm).

Matakana Coast Wine Country is also home to 20+ boutique award-winning wineries, all found on the Matakana Wine Trail.
Alongside the wineries the region is becoming well known for its breweries and cidery's, which offer you the chance to learn and enjoy their traditional approaches of production when calling in for some tastings.

The Matakana Wine region is a small boutique wine region. The wineries are mostly family owned and operated and visitors do get to meet the owners regularly. The cellar doors of Matakana welcome your visit. Experience our character, diversity and passion.
Premium wines have been produced in the Matakana Coast for over 25 years with exciting and diverse new varieties. Almost all the vineyards are on north facing slopes, which helps to drain the clay soils.
The Climate offer a is warm maritime climate, similar to Waiheke Island and Bordeaux.
Matakana Coast has been a traditionally Red Wine growing region, however there are now some outstanding White Wines being produced, especially Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. The classic red wine varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvingnon, Syrah Pinotage, Pinot Noir and Sangiovese have shown consistent excellence in the Matakana Coast.

Some of the wineries can take larger groups and offer a more focused tutored tasting experience.
The Matakana Wineries are unique as the visitor will often meet the proprietors in the tasting room or winery and really get to experience the philosophy of the winery and be able to first hand hear the story of how the winery came to be, and taste the flavors of the region.
